Postman Collection

Already living in Postman? Export your collection and paste it into Invokix. Your entire API becomes a live contract with types, hooks, and a mock server in seconds.

How to export from Postman

1

Open your collection in Postman

In the left sidebar, find the collection you want to import. Right-click the collection name and select Export from the context menu.

2

Select Collection v2.1 format

Postman will ask which format to export. Always choose Collection v2.1 — this is the format Invokix supports. Click Export and save the .json file anywhere on your machine.

3

Paste into Invokix

Go to your Invokix project and click Import → Postman Collection. Open the exported JSON file in any text editor, select all (Ctrl+A), copy, and paste it into the input. Click Import.

Invokix converts your collection to a full OpenAPI 3.0 contract and generates all code outputs immediately.

What transfers

When you import a Postman collection, Invokix maps your collection structure to an OpenAPI contract:

  • Every request becomes an endpoint with the correct HTTP method and path
  • Request bodies are converted to typed request schemas
  • Saved response examples become response schemas with inferred types
  • Folder structure in Postman becomes tags that group your endpoints
  • Environment variables like {{baseUrl}} are stripped and replaced with a clean base path
  • Collection-level auth settings are mapped to securitySchemes

What does not transfer

Some Postman concepts have no equivalent in an API contract:

  • Pre-request scripts — these are test automation, not part of your API design
  • Test assertions — same reason
  • Dynamic variables — {{$randomEmail}} and similar are replaced with static examples
  • Collection runs and monitors — these are Postman-specific workflow features

After importing

Postman collections are designed for testing, not documentation. After import your contract will likely have a lower Health Score than a hand-written OpenAPI spec — missing descriptions, no error response schemas, and some inferred types that need confirming.

This is expected and normal. Open the Health Score tab and work through the issues — most teams get to 90+ in about 10 minutes using the built-in Monaco editor.

Example — what your import looks like

If your Postman collection has a POST /orders request with a saved body like this:

Postman request body example
{
"price": 149.99,
"lineItems": [
  {
    "productId": "prod_123",
    "quantity": 2,
    "price": 74.99
  }
]
}

Invokix generates this contract schema automatically:

Generated OpenAPI schema
CreateOrderBody:
type: object
properties:
  price:
    type: number
    example: 149.99
  lineItems:
    type: array
    items:
      type: object
      properties:
        productId:
          type: string
          example: "prod_123"
        quantity:
          type: number
          example: 2
        price:
          type: number
          example: 74.99
